Sustainability Aspects: Reduce waste by making tags from laundry detergent

Melt Tag

Clothing tags generate a substantial amount of paper wastage. MELT TAG addresses this problem by reinventing the tag as a tab of dissolvable laundry detergent.

MELT TAG has been designed to reduce the volume of paper wasted through the production of disposable clothing tags, and to bring better value. The chemicals present in the cloth of brand new garments can have a detrimental effect on the skin. MELT TAG offers a solution. It is a dissolvable tab of detergent (paper soap) that can be placed inside the washing machine with the garment. It melts when it comes into contact with water. Small holes in the tag aid its contact with the water and speed up the dissolving process.

It is not clear how this would work out in reality and whether the cost for the environment would be really smaller then printing the label on recycled paper but it is a nice idea of integration of functions in a product
